Happy 25th at Cafe Salsa near West Beach

Happy 25th Birthday Anthony!

We celebrated the quarter century milestone with a table of fourteen at Cafe Salsa near West Beach. The home style Italian cuisine was served up in an relaxed outdoor setting. The Mediterranean style building featured large glassed doors and an outdoor covered dining area surrounded by palm trees. They have a sizable selection of wines with our final choice being the Tempranillo. For starters we had the garlic flat bread followed by the Kangaroo fillet with my partner ordering the linguine with cockles and mussels.

A negative point that must be raised is the time spent waiting. Waiting for menus, drinks, entrees, table clearance and mains seemed quite excessive. Luckily no-one at our table ordered dessert! Another point is to clarify on other descriptions I have found to Cafe Salsa with it being located ‘on the beach’ or ‘at the beach’ it is not. It is located 100m up West Beach Rd from the beach. If you angle your head from the front of the cafe railing your will see cars drive by on Seaview Rd. Behind the raised Seaview Rd with a 4 metre drop is yes, West Beach.

The kangaroo fillet cooked medium rare served with roasted vegetables is absolutely amazing and with four others at my table I can back that up! The linguini served with cockles and mussels seemed watered down lacking taste. With disappointment we found several of the mussels were still closed and put them to waste immediately.

If you’ve got plenty of time for dinner soak up the sea breeze then sit down at Cafe Salsa for home style Italian cuisine. All in all a very relaxing time and a pleasant ‘near beach’ restaurant to enjoy large group dinners. Overall I give Cafe Salsa 4 out of 5.
