Why No Niche? - Random Blogging Explained

“Your topics are random - you need a niche!”

These are comments from friends I have received and I want to explain what it is I am doing at johnnymestizo.com For this I refer to the article by Darren Rowse at Problogger, One Blog Many Categories or Many Blogs.

Darren: One of the common ways that many bloggers start out in their entrepreneurial blogging is through a personal and very general blog that covers many topics of interest. It makes sense in many ways - it’s simpler to have it all in one place, to manage one set of statistics, one design, one set of readers etc.

I am new to the blogging game and the following are the new activities I have needed to learn over the past two months.

  • Domain Name Registration
  • Web Hosting
  • Wordpress.org platform
  • Wordpress Themes and modification
  • Wordpress plugins
  • Widgets
  • Google AdSense
  • Text Link Ads
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Google Analytics

Whilst I am completing my Journalist course I hope to drastically improve my article writing, interview techniques and relationships with editors and publishers. Now that’s what I get out of it but as we all now it is the reader that counts.

In regards to general topic blogging Darren states:

  • Some readers became disillusioned with the blog
  • I felt guilty about the variety of topics

With niche blogging the advantages are:

  • Loyal Readers
  • Specialist Authors
  • Build Credibility and Profile
  • Good for contextual Advertising
  • Good for Search Engine Optimization
  • More posts
  • Attract Advertisers

With so many reasons to niche blog I have no other choice but to split into multiple blogs in the future. How do you find your successful niche blog? No idea. No doubt whatever you choose there will be someone somewhere already doing it. The only objective I can see is to constantly improve your content and develop your name and reputation. This may take a year to take on but persevere.

The benefits are outstanding as Darren continues:

Since I moved to this approach I’ve gone from 1 blog with 1000 pages that had around 900 daily visitors and earned just a few dollars per day to having 20 or so blogs with over 11,000 pages with 25,000 daily visitors that earns a few hundred dollars per day.

To be paid an income to write about what you passionately love doing is the ultimate goal. Good luck!

Thanks Tejvan - I believe I am starting to see topics I tend to draw to. Once I build a little stockpile of quality articles my first niche blog will be launched!

Are your sites now more updated, interesting, and fun to write now you’re niching?
